I expected this to be trash. It's not. It's definitely trashy, at least at times, but not trash. On one hand it could have benefited from a full season, that is at 12 episodes or even more, but on the other hand, I do not think it's meant to be that deep. It's not even trying to be deep, really. It's pretty straight-forward, although still capable to surprise you in the end. Potentially twice.
Especially liked the "games". There was an isometric "stealth action" in 1st episode, a visual novel in the 2nd episode, and a bunch of others. They obviously did not add anything to the narrative, but still were a nice way to present those specific portions of the show. There was even moments when live action was blended with animation. Not just any live action, too: it was stylized as old FMV games, and that looked pretty cool.
Overall, this is decent way to spend an evening while turning your brain off. Sometimes, that's all you really need.
I am not sure how to feel about this ending up being an Assassin's Creed story, though. Not jsut the frog. The last episode suggests that there are more connections to that lore
