Not sure where this is going. Definitely looks like a slow-burn, but is it because it's a slice-of-life? Or because they are trying to build tension? Although, can't say I felt much of tension even in the later part of the episode. Then there are spirits, but unclear how important they really are. Yes, it was explained that the guy was allegedly born thanks to a god's blessing, and then stayed alive thanks to another blessing, but why would that god even care about this boy? What I am saying is that story- and world- building is not good so far. Will give 2nd episode a chance, but don't think I will stick to this.

Episode 2:

It's just boring. I think it tries to be both supernatural and slice-of-life, and based on tags also a detective mystery or something. But it does not seem to be succeeding in any of those. Spirits are almost inconsequential, they could be replaced by something else, and that would not change things that much. Slice-of-life is not interesting, because there is barely anything going-on besides talking. And not like Bakemonogatari talking.

And detective or mystery... Why would we even care what happened to that carpenter? Nothing was shown to us, that would suggest that it matters. Yes, the boy's curiosity was piqued, I guess, but considering how plain his character seems to be thus far, that does not feel enough. Not going to continue this one.
