This manga is definitely worse than anime. But reading the manga made me realize, that maybe the anime was not that good as I [kind of] remember it, and as people said it was. I mean, the structure of the store is extremely uneven with most of the plot happening closer to the end. And then what is happening there is... Half-assed? I remember that anime made certain moment feel heavier, and presentation worked there. But aside from good presentation there were no real details, and reading manga, which is really close to the anime, just exposed the imperfection of it all.
I think it's all wasted potential. If the plot was stretched out through the whole story - it could have become a heavy hitter. If there were a bit more conflict inside the student council - it could have added more dimensions. Perhaps also flesh out some of the side characters more and give more moral dilemmas to further expand the world. As such first 2 thirds feel almost happy-go-lucky, and then they dump heavy stuff, that just feels inauthentic.
