Why did I even start using Proton products?
I think the first one was VPN. When I moved to Finland some Russian sites either stopped working or were flaky. I was using ZenMate, but it was not working with Russian servers. Proton was recommended, I tried it, it worked, I started using it. Support for torrents was a bonus: I do sometimes download games that do not have demos, so I can try them before purchase.
Then Pass came out. My 1Password subscription was expiring, and Pass+VPN sounded like a good deal. I tried it, it was ok, although not as good at autofill as 1Password (still is not, unfortunately). There was also a good discount for Ultimate, so I got that one, even though I needed only 2 apps.
Good for me, because later Microsoft pissed me off multiple times, very close to my subscription expiring. Since I had Mail and Drive already as part of subscription, I just went for them. Was somewhat painful: file sync works differently, Calendar is separate and I had to use events instead of tasks (which is better in some scenarios)... But overall, I do not regret it.
Coming from banking, I know how important security and privacy are, so I am ready to support Proton team. I do wish they focused on other things, than Lumo(even though I understand "why"), but they are not a corporation, they are privacy first, and they are Europe-based, which is what I want and need.
So, I am sticking with them, while regularly throwing tickets at them.
The above was written as community story for Proton, as the team was collecting such stories in September 2025.
