Once a schoolteacher, the threat of war caused her town's populace to shrink to an extent that the entire town moved into a neighboring city for safety. While Alysia followed, her teaching position did not - red eyes and a profound scar gave her new townsfolk the impression of a killer despite her sophisticated nature.
Leaving her hometown in search of work, she consulted a passing thaumaturge to forecast her uncertain destiny. After refuting it as unscholastic tripe, life's events began to bear disturbing connections to her fortune.
Alysia began investigating in earnest the possible insight thaumaturgy held for her future - but as forecast, the fears and features of war fed off her visage and loomed low over her life, as they would for the rest of her days.
Rather than live in fear of the unknown, Alysia chose to accept the lifestyle predicted for her. Choosing to prepare for the worst, she yet waits for the day to shed a sword and return to a life of instruction.
