Ada grew up under her mother's tutelage studying medicine and biology. Some call her cold and calculating, maybe she is but she is not uncaring or unempathetic. In some ways she closes herself off and buries herself in solving problems rather than dealing with people because inevitably she will feel too much empathy for those around her. She already hurts when she looks at the suffering in the world, she doesn't need to hurt more by allowing others close to her.
Easier to think of people as tools, to focus on the big picture. As a result she is utilitarian and considers harm to the few justifiable if it leads to harm reduction for the many. She learned to detach herself from worrying about hurting people when she learned to operate on the townsfolk of her village.The world is sick and she will cure it, no matter the hurt required to make it healthy.
