Common trope of "What? You were a girl?". Hayato got over the surprise pretty fast. Did not seem like that much of a surprise to him. Unless he knew and was somehow mentally blocking it? Anyway, kind of meh, nothing special. Animation in some scenes looked pretty stiff, too.
