Why did they sing in English in a Yugoslavian church? Not like people could not sing in English in Yugoslavia back in 1999, but I am not sure it makes sense in a church. This also does not affect the movie as a whole, of course, but just something that stood out to me right away.
The movie itself, though... It certainly subverts expectations, and does that really well. I think I learnt about it, because it was mentioned in context of stories doing exactly that, so I knew that something will go awry, but... I still did not expect the way it turned out. Not that there were no hints, but they were very vague. In fact, I thought of complaining about particular "subject" not being explored properly in the movie, but maybe it had to be that way to give this effect. Sorry for being vague, but I do think, that it's better to avoid spoilers for this movie at all costs.
Other than that, that's a Christmas movie, all right. People stumbling in their relationships, and then trying to fix those relationships and succeeding. Some new relationships are also built here. An overall positive vibes, wholesomeness and some light humor. Did not notice anything damning, so I'd give it a 7/10 and then an extra point for Clarke's eyebrows playing the best they can as always.
