↗It's ok for an evening. Not like I was expecting much of anything from a game adaptation, especially, a game where plot is, probably, not on the front of one's mind. I did not play the game much, tried it long time ago, and it just wasn't my type of combat (weapons like swords and axes are more my thing), so I can be wrong in that regard.
Anyway, the movie itself has some nice animation, and it definitely has style, but that's pretty much it. The story is fine, but predictable for the most part, and definitely underwhelming. It lacks... Gravitas? Emotional involvement (if not a roller-coaster), world-building... Maybe more interesting side-characters. Or, at least, those, whose background is explored a bit more. On the other hand since it was 1.5 hours there was, objectively, too little time to explore them.
The game series is known for crazy stunts, but what I saw in the anime did not feel that crazy. Possibly because they seemed to lack weight to them. Like physical weight. I think it was one of the things that I did not like when I played the game as well: Bayonetta felt too light even compared to Dante from DMC3, where he was not particularly "heavy" in a fight. If I remember correctly, magic also had more explanation on how it works during its first level.
Again, for one evening, it's perfectly fine, if you temper your expectations. It will not blow your socks off, but it won't make you dose off, either.
