Episode 5:
As expected some explanation was provided in last episode but still, overall, it does not make much sense. Who was that girl in opening? What was the point of saving people from first 3 episodes if the issue was just the war, which was part of the 4th episode only? Those episodes did not seem to have any connection. And episodes themselves were... With holes.
In 2nd episode why wasn't the local guide involved with Rain Forest Preservation group from the start? Or why they did not have their own guide? Later in the episode they clearly stated the benefit of having a guide familiar with the forest for a group, that tries to preserve it.. Also for some reason the robot started speaking differently from this episode onward.
In 3rd episode the girl stopping at crosswalk was stupid, but what the hell was happening with the car? It was not going that fast, so why did it swirl as if it was turning at a sharp angle and then lost traction doing that (rather lost traction and did a sharp turn)? Why would there be a need for AI in, essentially, a prosthetic, that only required to restore mobility for the hand? And how did they determine right away that she will not be able to play piano, if in real life no one can make such a prediction?
4th episode confused me the most. Previous episodes suggested that the robot was specifically monitoring specific people, but in this one looked like it was practically random. Yes there were some "simulations", but still the robot was walking about aimlessly. Or at least it looked like it did not have any goal whatsoever, especially when he left the guy to his own devices after first "accident". At the same time this episode was the best from pure narrative perspective. Just that it still did not fit with the whole show.
Yes, I know that anthologies do not need to have a connection between the stories inside them, but the whole premise of this show is that there is one. If I look at them as something standalone, then I would say the robot breaks the narrative of the first 2, and if it was not involved the message of each of those episodes could have been stronger. In the 4th episode the randomness of the robot's actions kind of works, not even sure why. And in the 3rd it's kind of on the edge: if this was a robot-like person or a person with implants it probably would have worked slightly better, but then why would he even follow the girl?
So overall, I'd give this... 4/10 maybe.
