On August 28th, I applied for OP Uusima's election of Representative Assembly. I am still salty about OP, but I still use it, and someone in Specialists in Finland chat asked if anyone is applying, and I do have some thoughts... So I applied. Even though it's unclear from the page, what it will even entail, and what real power (if any) the assembly will hold, but... I thought, that at the least, I will document how it goes, and looks like it's... Going.
So on August 28th I went to a page, and for support a candidate you needed a code:
Already an obscure thing, because, where would you even get one if you just want to vote? So I registered, did not think of taking a screenshot, but there was not anything interesting in the form itself anyway. That did result in a code:
That person from the chat did "support" me, of which I got an email. And his full name, which is a concerning point in this process. Since the link that worked at the time now does not work, I can't even check if anyone else used the code (I did share it in socials), but according to rules, 1 vote is enough anyway. Till today it as silence, but then I got this email:
Of course, it's in Finnish only. But essentially, it's saying that there will be ~2 weeks, when I will need to login to a certain page, fill-in some questionnaire and attach a photo. And then in November there will be 10 days, where people will be able to vote. Oh, and I also will need to upload a photo, and there is an opportunity to get one for free through Tunnin Kuva.
That's it. Not much, I know, but I will still be documenting whatever comes my way in this thread. Ass for what I would do, if elected... I guess, these:
- Ensure that no personal information is shared in the process above.
- Ensure that it has materials in English as well.
- Possibly improve some points, so that process is more clear.
- Push for a system with temporary blocks for "suspicious" transactions, money from which can be used by bank, while they are blocked. Like forced saving account for a year or more (depends on the sum and possibly other factors).
- Look into ways to ensure that "KYC" is not abused, is fair and, possibly, transparent (as much as possible without compromising security).
