Snooze-fest. Quite literally, since I even split watching this into 2 evening because I was nodding off on the first evening while watching this. It was difficult to stay awake on the 2nd evening. Insane? Yes. Just as 50 gold for bread is.
Pointless characters, stupid dialogs. Velvet is the deepest character, but can be summarized as "orphan in a religious cult, that wears dresses and agonizes about other orphans being sacrificed". Get know progression at all. Sapphire is nominally better, since her progress involves "getting powers" and then also "losing powers for no real reason besides plot needing at least some drama". Oh, and she does regain that power thanks to a song... A song that got barely 1 (!) mention. But it some even creates clones of people from reality and help Sapphire "wake up" or whatever.
The movie also tried to be funny, but I would argue that AI probably can squeeze more laughs out of me. The attempts at jokes just made the tone feel inconsistent. There was definitive potential for a darker story, maybe moral dilemmas, but... None of that was present. Just "there are some bad monsters here". Even the obvious "evil church" was not explored at all.
Visually it's fine, I guess. Some may enjoy the "transformation" sequence. But other than that it felt like a complete waste of my time. 4/10 for me.
